320 Down ReviewStrong well developed characters with whom you can sympathize with. Very human and flawed. Have to love the characters! Detailed and well thought out plot followed through to a suspenseful ending! Several typos throughout the book, but were easy to ignore do to excellent storytelling! Very enjoyable! Thank you!320 Down OverviewFormer FBI investigator, Dawn McCafferty arrives after a Californian Credit Union discovers 320 million dollars missing. Still haunted from killing a man in the line of duty Dawn left the FBI and her failing relationship to investigate fraud for the NCUA, never wanting to take another life. What she assumes will be another tedious case until the profile suggests the theft is personal and orchestrated by someone with a grudge. Where everyone else focuses on the missing money, she sees revenge. Tom Williams is trying to escape his past, already on the outs with the credit union from past allegations; he is biding time at a dead-end job waiting for his life to start over. On paper he doesn't seem like a man who needs to steal, yet Dawn becomes certain of his guilt. As their Cat & Mouse game begins all the dirty little secrets hiding behind the calm facade begin to escape. Tom Williams doesn't act like any suspect she's ever encountered and she finds herself intrigued. The government's mounting pressure to avoid paying the loss brings the investigation and their lives to a dangerous crossroad showing the risks people will take to find what is lost and prove everything is not as it appears.

Second Watch ReviewOfficer Clausen's second book is just as good as his first, "First Avenue," but in a different way. Here he writes not one, not two, but THREE very sympathetic and believable female characters (rare for a man). He also devotes a few chapters to the interior monologues of Daniel, the 8-year old central character of this story, and these are rendered with sensitivity and insight without condescension. He even creates a character who is homeless-by-choice, whom he neither vilifies nor glorifies. These are difficult tightropes to walk, and Clausen dances fearlessly across the rope.
The Seattle locations are so accurate that I recognized most of them immediately before he even named them. I think I've even met some of the background characters who work there!
The story is a tough, gritty crime novel which has at its center some crimes which are not easy to watch transpire, so this is not a lightweight or casual book. It is, however, a very well-crafted novel which is at least as good as his first.
That's high praise indeed.Second Watch Overview

The Witness ReviewJosh McDowell is a renowned Christian apologist. I read his More Than a Carpenter as a teenager, and I heard him speak at a Christian conference. I knew he could make a convincing argument for the claims of Christ. But I wasn't sure if he could write convincing fiction.
The answer is yes, he can. The Witness starts out with a bang, literally, as security expert Marwan Accad's client is killed in front of him. Marwan soon realizes that not only is he a target, but he's also the prime suspect in his client's murder. As he travels Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East trying to uncover the truth, he endangers everyone he cares about.
The Witness's plot is engaging, and the story is well-written. I did figure out who the bad guy was fairly quickly, and that's the only complaint I have about the book. What I appreciated most was how seamlessly McDowell weaved apologetics into the plot. In some Christian fiction I've read, it feels like the author felt obligated to present the gospel but didn't really know where or how to put it. This results in a clunky and awkward story, and I (and I'm sure many other readers) tend to skim those parts. Perhaps because McDowell is so used to defending the faith he was able to easily integrate the Truth into this story without compromising the entertainment value.
Who should read it? Anyone who enjoys suspense.
I received this book free from Tyndale House Publishers. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.The Witness OverviewFrom Monte Carlo to Morocco to Egypt and into Petra, Marwan Accad is pursued by authorities for murders he did not commit. Tracked by advanced intelligence-surveillance technology, his every location is eventually found out, thrusting those he loves into danger. Nurtured by a bitter past that equipped him with what he needed for his company to thrive, Marwan Accad never looks back. Yet the way forward promises only uncertainty, and living each day is a lie in which corruption and greed play in the lives of man. For whose lie is he going through all of this? Even as Marwan races against time to find his pursuers and their motives, he must grapple with what is beyond his life, with what is eternal.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell ReviewSplinter Cell is a novel that is based off of the popular video game that revolves around the best Splinter Cell out there, Sam Fisher. This book is the first in a series that is destine to run for many years. I was given the second book in this series as a present and was very impressed, impressed enough to pick up the first book in what promises to be a very solid series. I would recommend that anyone who would like to get involved in the Splinter Cell series to start with this book. Many of the items that Sam Fisher uses are explained in great detail at the start of this book and not nearly explained in as much detail in the second. The one thing that kept me from giving this book a 5 star rating was the fact that it ended far too abruptly. While the pages were winding down I was beginning to wonder how Mr. Bensen (aka David Michaels) was going to end the story in a matter of pages. Overall the book was very good and one that cost me some hours of sleep as I was unable to put it down. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a good action thriller type of book.
The last thing that I would like to comment on regards to this series is the fact that they decided to not use the true authors name (Raymond Bensen) and instead opted for the pseudonym of David Michaels. The reason that the pseudonym was used was for the series to be able to move on with a different author while keeping the same pen name. The publishing company believes that changing the author will cause a sudden change in the fan base causes less to purchase the book. The reason that that scares me is because I believe that the people involved with this book will remove Mr. Bensen from the series which I truly believe would be a great crime.
