Prophecy ReviewI enjoyed reading this mystery thriller. This book puts Silverstein and Kipling in another suspensful situation in which Lopez and the CIA must get involved. The characters are strong, plot believable. Since I do all my reading at night before bed, I really appreciate short power packed chapters. I could hardly put the book down. Looking forward to another book from this author, with perhaps more emphasis on Kipling's character.Prophecy OverviewIn 1889, one of the worst environmental disasters to befall the United States occurred in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. More than 2,200 people died when a poorly maintained sporting dam gave way and destroyed the town.

Only minutes before the catastrophe, a nineteen-year-old girl enters a church in Johnstown, puts a letter into a bottle, and places it inside a safe. In the year 2009, that safe is unearthed. The letter reveals that the author knew of the impending flood. At the same time, laboratory experiments in Russia have far-reaching implications. In what could prove to be the scientific discovery of the ages, researchers uncover a rare genetic mutation that could scientifically explain the clairvoyant powers exhibited by prophets of old.

At the epicenter of the ensuing maelstrom, Dr. Victor Mark Silverstein, the Naval Research Laboratory's preeminent scientist, and his loyal assistant tangle with greedy U.S. senators, the CIA, and a Middle Eastern organization for verification and control of the "prophecy gene." The hunt begins for a present-day carrier who could confirm the gene's potential and prompt development of a synthetic replacement. Bad Guys ReviewZack Walker, features writer for the Metropolitan newspaper, has had some really busy nights lately. He's been assigned to write about the life of PI Lawrence Jones, who's been staking out high-end men's clothing stores targeted by crash-and-grab thieves. When Zack's off duty, he occasionally checks up on his eighteen-year-old daughter's whereabouts. Zack's perpetual worries about Angie's safety soar into overdrive when he learns she has a stalker. Angie doesn't take the stalker seriously, but when Zack and Lawrence catch him hiding behind Zack's garage, Lawrence volunteers to check the kid out. Before he can tell Zack what he's learned, Lawrence is stabbed. Meanwhile, for reasons Zack doesn't understand, the clothing thieves learn who Zack is and go after him.
Linwood Barclay's BAD GUYS is a perfect blend of humour and drama, twists and turns, that come together in a truly suspenseful ending. Zack's attempts to keep tabs on Angie have a way of backfiring, which creates some really funny moments. As a parent of teens, I related to his worries, frustrations, and growing helplessness as his daughter charges into the world--driver's license in hand--with the kind of confidence, optimism, and naivety only the young have. I liked many characters in this book, and kudos to Mr. Barclay for creating some of the strangest and most memorable bad guys I've read in a long time. If you're looking for pure entertainment and enjoyment, pick up BAD GUYS and get ready for one heck of a ride.

The Judas Judge (Kevin Kerney Novels) ReviewThis action packed story, set in New Mexico, is a book I couldn't put down. Michael McGarrity continues to develop his primarary character, the man's man, Kevin Kerney. This is a GREAT READ from the exciting first chapter through the final page.
Buy and read this book and you will, if you are not already a fan, be reading the other four of his books.
I highly recommend this book, without any reservation. I can't wait for the next one to emerge from this author with the background, experience and knowledge of his subject matter. He tells things as they really are in law enforcement and on the street.
I've seen it all, as a lawyer and criminal procecuter, and from my personal view, McGarrity has directness and tells things truthfully and factually as they happen in the "real world" of criminal investigation.
Michael, thank you for another great read. Keep up the good work; my wife and I can't wait until your next book is published and we continue to follow the development of your characters.
