The Accidental Florist (Jane Jeffry Mysteries, No. 16) ReviewI love Jane and Shelley. I wanted to love this book. Really I did. For the past ten years, I have waited for each new book to come out so I could savor every page. I have read every book in this series over the years and I have to admit, the last few have been a little disappointing, but this one should be an embarrasment to the author.
This "mystery" doesn't seem to be a mystery at all, but rather a mindless list of how to add a room to your house, pick the right fabric swatch for a wedding and change cat litter pans. Even worse than this boring grocery list of pointless actions, there are glaring contradictions in the story. First Jane is glad she changed the litter pans when the architect comes over and then, five pages later, she's buying litter pans becasue the cats have been "outside " cats that have forgotten how to use them.
I sincerely hope this is the last installment of the series because it was terrible. It makes me very sad to see what once was a delightful series slide into such junk. It makes me sad also to see an author, with an established name and publishing career, submit a book like this to the marketplace and actually take people's money for it. I would rather imagine Jane and Shelly somewhere actually solving a mystery than to see the characters turned into boring ninnies. If the author can do no better than this, I hope she will do the ethical thing, put down the pen and stop preying on those of us who have been faithful readers over the years.
The Accidental Florist (Jane Jeffry Mysteries, No. 16) Overview
Here comes the bride!

Suburban supersleuth Jane Jeffry and her detective beau Mel VanDyne have finally decided to tie the knot. While Jane's planning the wedding of her dreams—with no overbearing mother-in-law to steamroll the entire event and tell her what to wear—Mel convinces her and her best friend Shelley to take a women's self-defense class. But before Jane and Shelley can learn the karate kicks and mean moves to fight off even the perfect purse-snatcher, their class is cut brutally short . . . when two participants are murdered.

Between her new writing project, an addition to the house, and battling mothers-in-law, she's got her hands full. But she'll have to make time to help Mel find the killer if she wants to walk happily—and safely—down the aisle.

Cat Seeing Double: A Joe Grey Mystery (Joe Grey Mysteries) ReviewBeing the proud owner of three pesky kittens soon to be cats, the feline heroes (and heroines) in Shirley Murphy's series are all too realistic to imagine!!! Joe, Dulcie and Kit have such unique personalities that they seem almost human. Once again, the plot takes back seat to the many adventures the three cats have in solving the mysteries. This one has plenty: why is a ten year old boy involved in the bombing of the church where Charly and Max are to be married? Who is trying to frame Ryan for the murder of her estranged no-good husband? Where did the silver dog come from? These questions are answered rather leisurely, but you're so enraptured with the characters, everything flows smoothly. Another great entry in this enjoyable series!

Farewell, Miss Zukas (Volume 12) ReviewAfter becoming a fan of cozy mystery series, I decided to google "librarian mysteries," being a librarian myself. And that's how I discovered Miss Zukas! I read all the books in the series and was waiting for the next one, when I learned on the author's blog that there wouldn't be anymore. I was disappointed, yet hopeful, and am so glad she gave us this last one. Although the ending is bittersweet, it feels wonderful knowing how beloved Miss Zukas is by all of us who know her. She is a shining example of the library profession and an inspiration for her bravery and sensible style of living. She's a loyal friend and acts with integrity. This series has been full of wonderful stories, and this one does not disappoint. I was especially touched with her tender handling of family matters and appreciation of her Lithuanian heritage. But best of all was her skillful, no-nonsense navigation of wedding planning. The wedding itself is full of surprises and spot on. So now I'm waiting for "Miss Zukas Returns!"Farewell, Miss Zukas (Volume 12) OverviewIn the twelfth and concluding Miss Zukas mystery, Chief of Police Wayne Gallant has finally popped the question to Miss Helma Zukas, librarian par excellence. But before Bellehaven, Washington can rejoice in the glad tidings, Helma's mother and Aunt Em are robbed and the alleged robber lies dead - or does he? Helma and her artist friend Ruth navigate through dangerous waters, including Helma's mother's wedding schemes, Ms. Moon's library secrets, and picketing authors, to discover the truth and recover the stolen items, especially Aunt Em's mysterious Lithuanian carving.

Final Notice: A Miss Zukas Mystery ReviewHelma Zukas' brother calls with the news that their Aunt Em has had an accident and is unable to care for herself for awhile. Helma steps in and volunteers to take time off from her job as a librarian to take care of her favorite aunt. As soon as Aunt Em arrives, strange things begin to happen, from stolen suitcases to the appearance of a dead body. Aunt Em seems to be at the center of the occurrences and Helma begins to suspect that her aunt's past is not quite as pristine as she had believed. She and her best friend Ruth begin to investigate the people who surround Aunt Em and finally discover a motive for the crimes which have been committed. Aunt Em is blissfully unaware of the stir that she is causing and proceeds to befriend several people in Bellehaven. She is a delightful character who would be an asset in future books. As always, this Miss Zukas Mystery, is a fun and enjoyable read.Final Notice: A Miss Zukas Mystery OverviewLibrarians seldom have as much fun--or as many direct references to dead bodies--as Miss Helma Zuckas, master sleuth and loaner of all things literary. Unless she can learn the whole story, the final chapters are about to be written as a tale of mystery, mayhem...and murder.
