Moon Virginia: Including Washington, D.C. (Moon Handbooks) ReviewI love Moon guides, so I was horribly disappointed in this one. I knew it was copywrited 2007 but the outdated information were things that should have been fixed a minimum of 3 years before that. Since we live in the area I thought this would still be handy instead of horribly maddening.
Examples of my frustrations:
In Virginia: just the writing to explain what Hampton Roads is -is confusing. The Jefferson Winery almost next door to Monticello is left out, even though there are may other wineries listed and this one at least has some historical connection. There is absolutely nothing about the 9/11 Memorial at the Pentagon. There is nothing to explain the difference or mention of the 2 different Yorktown historical exhibits.
For the DC area: It is lacking information on hotels close to the mall; meaning within walking distance and there are at least 3 that I know of that are not in the exclusive category. That certainly would be a huge help for families as would be information on where to get food on the Mall area. There is little listed except of the `nightclub/nighttime variety.
Just give this one a skip, but don't give up on the Moon publications because all the others that I have used have been 100% better than this one.Moon Virginia: Including Washington, D.C. Fodor's Washington, D.C. 2009: with Mount Vernon, Alexandria & Annapolis (Fodor's Gold Guides) ReviewTHe reason that i bought Fodor's guide to DC was because at the time it was the only book that included some of the new sights that are in DC such as the Newseum, etc. The book is well laid out by districts and sights we used it alot before we went out. There was one problem however, in the book on the front cover it has the metro lines and stops laid out but they must have forgot to color in the orange line as the bullets and stop names were there but no line to follow, not a problem as there are free metro maps in DC everywhere. Also it was helpful that it had a pullout map of the city to use. Overall i recommend the book.Fodor's Washington, D.C. 2009: with Mount Vernon, Alexandria & Annapolis (Fodor's Gold Guides) OverviewFodor's. Moon New Jersey (Moon Handbooks) Reviewthis was my first time using a Moon Guide and i was very pleased. i was impressed with the number of small towns that were included. i found the author's recommendations, from restaurants to sightseeing, to be just as she described them. she was also honest about the "not so great" places. it's a great guide for exploring New Jersey!Moon New Jersey (Moon Handbooks) OverviewOften misunderstood by outsiders, New Jersey has been coming back into the nation's eye over the past few years. A native of the Garden State, Laura Kiniry guides travelers from revitalized Newark, which boasts the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, to the colonial tea-burning town of Greenwich. In between is college hub New Brunswick, which offers everything from fine dining to college pubs, the Thomas Alva Edison Memorial Museum, and Atlantic City's famous casinos and boardwalk. Kiniry also offers unique trip strategies that allow visitors to explore their specific interests, such as the Eight-Day Pop Culture Tour and Recreational New Jersey. From canoeing in The Pinelands to screaming on the roller coasters at Six Flags Great Adventure, Moon New Jersey gives travelers the tools they need to create a more personal and memorable experience.

Official Guide to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum ReviewAuthor David Romanowski and Smithsonian Books offer up this 3rd edition of the OFFICIAL GUIDE TO THE SMITHSONIAN NATIONAL AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM. Published in 2009, it offers a colorful, entertaining and informative guide to the jewel that is NASM.
Since 1976, over a quarter billion men, women and children have toured NASM. Hundreds of airplanes, space vehicles and artifacts are imaginatively displayed at NASM and the Udvar-Hazy Center, chronicling flight in America. Though I've never been to the latter facility, I did tour NASM recently and it's a wonderful treat whether you're an airplane nut or not.
After a brief preface by current director John Dailey, Romanowski traces the history of NASM from its beginnings in the late 1800s to the present. He then takes a look at the Milestones of Flight Gallery and the various aviation and space galleries. The informative text is highlighted by dozens of gorgeous color photographs. The in-your-face close-ups are absoluely superb. Brown also details the Planetarium, IMAX Theater, Udvar-Hazy Center, etc. I wish Brown had included an index but that's just me.
If you're planning a vacation to our nation's capital, save time for NASM. As revealed in Brown's book, it's a world-class museum with aviation/space wonders galore. And let OFFICIAL GUIDE TO THE SMITHSONIAN NATIONAL AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM be your guide. Recommended.
Official Guide to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum OverviewThis fully illustrated guide to the world's most-visited aviation and space museum is both an indispensable companion for visitors and a detailed history in itself of humanity's quest for flight. The Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum maintains the world's largest collection of historic aircraft and spacecraft plus an amazing assortment of other historic objects. Many fascinating items from the twenty-three galleries and two off-site facilities—including the Wright Flyer, Chuck Yeager's Bell X-1, and the spacesuits worn by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin—are presented here in 200 full-color photographs, accompanied by their equally intriguing stories.
