When Money Talks: Buford Tucker Listens ReviewI just finished it and I really, really enjoyed it. I've read everything by John Grisham and this is as good as anything he's written. It's hard to believe that this is Danny's first book. This book is extremely thought provoking and brings to light how our government operates. When Money Talks: Buford Tucker Listens Overview

The Justice Game ReviewBased on a real-life case attorney Randy Singer tried ten years ago, The Justice Game artfully portrays both sides of the gun rights debate. Interestingly, Singer didn't set out to convert anyone. He told me, "I wanted to write a book so balanced that both sides would look at it and say, `That fairly represents our case.'"
The Justice Game opens in TV news reporter Rachel Crawford's point of view. A crazed gunman named Larry Jamison, the subject of a scathing news report, barges into the studio and shoots Rachel dead. The crime is clearly caught on film, but it's not the killer who ends up in court during The Justice Game. Rachel's grieving husband sues the manufacturer of Jamison's assault weapon for her wrongful death. He believes they are responsible since they knew the gun store who sold the weapon was known for illegal straw sales.
But this story isn't about Rachel as much as it's about young and ambitious defense attorney Jason Noble and up-and-coming prosecutor Kelly Starling. Both believe in their clients. Both are on top of their games. And both have pasts worthy of blackmail. Mix in the intriguing concept of a cutting edge company who predicts the outcome of trials for financial gain using shadow juries, and you have a true Randy Singer plot--full of delightful twists and turns you never saw coming.
Pay careful attention during the beginning chapters. Because so many of these concepts are unfamiliar, and many key players aren't introduced until later in the story, there's the potential for confusion. But there's also a great glimpse into the fascinating aspects of shadow juries and we come to understand why gun control is such a visceral issue to so many. At times you'll find yourself nodding in agreement with the defense as they present their case; then you'll empathize with the prosecution as they present theirs. Which just goes to show Singer has succeeded in what he set out to write--a novel that evenly presented both sides.
The Justice Game doesn't feel like an issue novel. We're never pounded over the head with its message. Instead, we're subtly led to our own conclusions as we examine the facts. Should a gun manufacturer be held responsible for a crime committed with one of their guns?
Before Singer finished writing The Justice Game a four minute interactive promotional video was created that presented the closing arguments of his fictional case. Then readers were asked to cast their vote on the verdict, and that would become the ending of the book. Their decision would be final. According to Randy the side that started out ahead stayed ahead.
Randy singer is one of the best Christian legal thriller writers out there in the purest sense. His complex plot spins and colorful, realistic characters combine to bring us a rich reading experience in The Justice Game.

The Rose Conspiracy ReviewI want to start of by saying that I loved this book. I am a tough sell, but once I find a book I like, I just can't put it down. The Rose Conspiracy was certainly a page turner! It was well-written with a carefully developed plot. The characters were bold and life-like. It was light reading by any measure, it was very intense. Many books have me flipping to the back of the book to find the predictable ending, but Parshall kept me engaged and I read every page until the end. I highly recommend this book to those who like a good mystery. As the icing on top, there was a good, moral message that underlies the entire novel. Kudos to the author! The Rose Conspiracy Overview
Publishers Weekly called Craig Parshall's Trial by Ordeal 'an enjoyable romp for legal thriller aficionados." Now Parshall takes his readers to the nation's capital, where a hitherto unknown document has turned up...and turned into murder.

As the Smithsonian's president examines a newly discovered account of Abraham Lincoln's assassination, an intruder steals in, kills him, and disappears into the night with the document.

Vinnie Archmont, an accomplished and stunningly beautiful artist, is implicated. She hires the brilliant but secretly guilt-burdened criminal law professor J.D. Blackstone.

Blackstone finds himself uncovering the Mystic Freemasons' most guarded secret. He reluctantly turns to his uncle, a Bible-quoting Anglican priest and occult-religions expert. Enemies like a sorcery-obsessed billionaire English lord, a powerful U.S. Senator, and a ruthless prosecutor force Blackstone to employ all his cunning.

In the process, he is compelled to choose between spiritual counterfeit and Gospel truth, guilt and forgiveness...destruction and a new beginning.

The Election ReviewELECTION is a Christian political thriller by Jerome Teel. Mac Foster the republican presidential candidate, is in trouble. He is down in the polls and falling daily. Shep Taylor, his campain manager is desperate and enlists the help of a private investigator to try and dig up the truth about their opponent. Rumors have been swirling that current vice president and Democratic candidate Ed Burke has been receiving illegal campaign contributions. Shep hides this from Mac because he knows Mac, a strong Christian, would not approve of these tactics. Meanwhile, in Jackson, Mississippi, attorney Jake Reed is representing a man accused of killing Jesse Thompson. Thompson was a powerful banker in the city and a great friend of Ed Burke. Reed soon discovers the murder of Thompson could have national implications, and must fight to free his client, save his family, and preserve the truth that could save the country.
Ed Burke has sold his soul and the hope of the presidency to a group of three evil men called the Federalists. The Federalists plan to control the world once Burke wins the White House. Their method for doing this seems a little far-fetched, but the evil they use to achieve their goals is real. Teel sprinkles the novels with strong Christian characters and the primary message of salvation through Christ is simple yet effective. Teel also touches on the message of that when bad things happen, God is still in control. This is a hard subject to cover, especially briefly in a political thriller, and thankfully Teel doesn't make any definitive theological statements on this issue.
That's the plot in a nutshell. I've read a lot of novels like this, but this is my first in the Christian genre. The novel is wide in scope yet intimate enough where we really get to know about and care for characters. The plot is deep and complex, yet Teel walks the reader through the plot, spelling out every little detail. This approach by the author removes much of the suspense that is normally associated with a novel like this.
Teel is a first time novelist I believe, so hopefully he will improve over time. Throughout much of the novel, Teel seems to talk down to the reader, or write sections that seem amazingly obvious. For example, Mac Foster is returning home after a day of campaigning and Teel says: "Even though he had no chance of winning the election, Mac was still entitled to Secret Service Protection until the election was over." This restatement of an obvious fact is an example of the type of writing you'll find a lot. In another instance, an FBI agent is looking for Jake Reed. He says "I'll get some rest tonight and then locate Reed in the morning. I just hope we're not too late." In this case, I thought if it was that urgent, the FBI agent would have went to Reed's house immediately, regardless of the time. I don't want to seem picky, but I think Teel's characters often took unrealistic actions for the purpose of the plot.
Teel was able to create a novel with engaging characters and a complex plot. Unfortunately, the narrative at times seems to simple and doesn't seem to give the reader the benefit of the doubt. I found my self skimming paragraphs at a time to get to the action.
The Election OverviewThey seek ultimate power. Nothing can stand in their way. Ed Burke has waited a lifetime to become president of the United States. He's not about to let his nemesis, Mac Foster, stop him now...especially when he's sold his soul for the Oval Office. Claudia Duval has lived a rough life. And finally, things have turned around for her after meeting the wealthy Hudson Kinney. But is all what it seems? When a prominent citizen is murdered in Jackson, Tennessee, attorney Jake Reed doesn't want to know the truth. He just wants to get his client off. But as he investigates, he uncovers a sinister scheme. A scheme that would undermine the very democracy of America...and the freedom of the entire world.

Santa Fe Rules ReviewI brought this book along with me to read during an originally short plane trip. I started reading it on the way home and after two planes and a 5 hour delay in the middle, I easily finished this book in one day. This was a great book to have with me because it was really a page turner and helped to quickly pass the time. One thing I think Stuart Woods does well is put several twists into his books which made me look up and say "No way!" throughout this book.
The main character is Wolf Willet who we get to know in the start as a guy who likes his routine and has made a large amount of money in the entertainment business. In the beginning he flies from Sante Fe on his way to LA and has plane troubles and lands near the Grand Canyon. He reads the NY Times headline which says that his wife, his best friend, and him are found shot dead at his home in a guest bedroom. Through the entire rest of the book, Wolf continues to find out who the killer and the dead people really are. You are introduced to many characters who you consistently question...who do you really trust?
This was a great mystery by Stuart Woods and I would definately recommend it to anyone!Santa Fe Rules Overview
