ReviewJaded thriller addict that I am, I picked up Watch Me thinking 'oh spare me, another dated cyber-cops-and-robbers, mouse-turns-vampire thing'. By page 90 I'd not only double-locked the doors, but made sure the dead bolts were set as well. This is a very satisfying and complex tale of pure human evil, carefully set in a wide variety of real and virtual locations, ranging from Vancouver to the dregs of cyberspace. Jay Fletcher, the leading lady, is morally ambiguous but lethally effective as she confronts a web of serial killers frighteningly disguised as normal people in our midst. Is this a disturbing book? Yes, definitely - what are the limits of legal protection? Is vigilantism justifiable, and if so, who decides? Kuchma's Dictum ReviewKuchma's Dictum is the mother of all conspiracy theories. A taut and compact thriller with a plot that lets the reader know the author really knows his stuff. Airplane buffs in particular will relish the accurate detail. The main character is well drawn, an ex-cop so down on his luck he is working as a security guard, who stumbles on to something big and who just won't let go until he finds out the truth. The plot is plausible and well worked out. It could be in the headines tomorrow.Kuchma's Dictum OverviewKuchmas Dictum is the story of a Russian paratroop commander, Colonel Yuri Vitrenko, who attempts to terrorize the United States into withdrawing its troops from Europe so Russia can have a free hand in bringing the breakaway republics back into the fold.Vitrenko is part of a military and civilian clique that includes Colonel General Alexi Kuchma. The general has a large following and is planning to run in the next presidential election. Vitrenko is convinced that getting American troops out of Europe will ensure Kuchmas election. To this end, he devises a series of terrorist plots but does not involve any members of the clique for fear of retaliation against Russia. Vitrenko starts his reign of terror by anonymously warning the Americans of his intentions if they do not withdraw their troops from Europe. The Americans do not heed his warning. As a result, Vitrenko executes a congressman and a senator. When his next warning is not heeded, Vitrenko downs a Boeing 747 with a Chinese Vanguard missile killing 230 passengers and crewmembers.The American President counters Vitrenkos moves. Both politicians' deaths are described as accidental and the downing of Aeroexpress Flight 120 is ascribed to a fuel tank explosion. The cover up almost unravels when an airport security guard and a retired Navy captain, investigating on their own, uncover evidence that a missile brought down Flight 120. Vitrenko, furious at the success of the cover up, smuggles a hydrogen bomb into the United States and the plot continues...

Wild Fire ReviewNelson DeMille's The Lion's Game is one of the best thrillers ever written, but Wild Fire lags far behind. If you are a DeMille fan, this may be exactly the thing you like, but it put me to sleep. First, there is no plot. From the book's dust jacket and early pages, you know that a wealthy oil man wants to wipe out the people of the Middle East by exploding black-market, nuclear bombs in two American cities, triggering a massive nuclear response onto the Middle East from the United States (Project Wild Fire). We know that it won't happen, so we already know that someone will stop it. Second, the book has endless conversation that drags on forever. Third, we again have Detective John Corey and FBI Agent Kate Mayfield investigating the case, but this is not the capable John Corey that we saw in The Lion's Game. This John Corey is a wisecracking buffoon, and an entire book of his one-liners becomes really tiresome. The story's end is exciting and ties up loose ends nicely. This is the first time that I did not like a DeMille book, but I suspect that his next will create the usual excitement.Wild Fire Overview

Bloody Mexico: a novel of Cartel Wars ReviewYou really get the feeling that Larry has, "been there, done that" when you read this book. He is great at describing the action using a pointed vocabulary without giving you the vibe of someone who is trying too hard.
There is a bit of an overload of characters in the front; however, once introduced, you get to know them familiarly. The Gary and Track duo only let you peel back the onion one layer at a time, allowing the reader to fantasize about their history as the story progresses.
The bad guys are, as we all like them, intelligent, unpredictable and sociopathic.
As I understand it, this is one of Larry's first forays into the world of novels; you would never know it. I truly look forward to watching his writing style develop along side his proven ability to create strong plot lines and interesting characters.Bloody Mexico: a novel of Cartel Wars OverviewIn dystopian México, the absence of a just and moral government has led to a vacuum where evil runs virtually unchecked. Society festers where an underground empire rules a land in self-destruct mode. I just downloaded the book on my Kindle and can hardly put it down! I'm not a fan of nonfiction books, but this reads like a better-than Tom Clancy book. The memories of the Germany-hosted Olympics where the Israeli athletes were mowed down by Palestine terrorists and then the Southern Airlines terror of having to fly back and forth from USA to Cuba are fully described in the early chapters of The Threat Matrix. What an awakening to terror from the "gangsta" days of J.Edgar Hoover!! This book is going to fly off the shelves and into the Kindles when the accolades get out!
