Bloody Mexico: a novel of Cartel Wars ReviewYou really get the feeling that Larry has, "been there, done that" when you read this book. He is great at describing the action using a pointed vocabulary without giving you the vibe of someone who is trying too hard.
There is a bit of an overload of characters in the front; however, once introduced, you get to know them familiarly. The Gary and Track duo only let you peel back the onion one layer at a time, allowing the reader to fantasize about their history as the story progresses.
The bad guys are, as we all like them, intelligent, unpredictable and sociopathic.
As I understand it, this is one of Larry's first forays into the world of novels; you would never know it. I truly look forward to watching his writing style develop along side his proven ability to create strong plot lines and interesting characters.Bloody Mexico: a novel of Cartel Wars OverviewIn dystopian México, the absence of a just and moral government has led to a vacuum where evil runs virtually unchecked. At every step I asked myself, what would I do as a parent to save my child in a similar situation? Be careful before you answer. What we learn from Barbara and Emily is that no family crisis occurs at some convenient time in some easily solved manner. Well meaning people sometimes offer the tritest words of, what they mistakenly think is encouragement. Sometimes it feels as though no one understands and that the heavens have grown silent - for both parent and child.
The characters are people struggling with their faith in the crucible of extraordinary circumstances. Knowing that the author has personally worked in ministries to women just like Emily only makes the story more compelling. Intervention is an intensely personal and spiritual novel; one that quite possibly will garner the label of "preachy" by some. As far as this reviewer is concerned it is a message that needs to be heard by all parents and their children. We are all works in progress in need of the ultimate Interventionist.
