Flurries: A Zapstone New Voices Holiday Collection ReviewThis holiday themed anthology promises romances which feature women at various stages in their lives, what it delivers is mostly holiday tales with just the promise of romance but I was enchanted with more than half of the stories in this collection.
"Once Upon a Flight Delay" by Mary Compton ~ Fate brings two stranded travelers together while snowbound in an airport at Thanksgiving, when flights resume will geography keep them apart? I really enjoyed this one and was charmed by the pair's quick and quirky connection, I was really hoping they'd find a way back to each other somehow.
"Snowbound" by Claire Taylor Allen ~ When a snow storm shuts down all the roads out of town keeping a student from making it home for Christmas, she reconnects with an old friend living in the city ~ I always enjoy friends who discover that they can be more, and liked how the heroine's forced Christmas away from home ended up being a meaningful and memorable one.
"Bringer of Gifts" by Ryl Regehr ~ A woman accompanies a mysterious gift giver who has just what you need if you are 'ready' to receive it ~ Sprinkled with a bit of Christmas magic, I was hoping that Nick would get to keep his present.
"Where We Love" by Ronda Russell ~ A couple living overseas try to keep connected to the family they left behind ~ This was the least focused of the stories, though the couple's love for each other and for their families shone through.
"In Hiding" by Lelani Dixon ~ A witness in hiding is attracted to her handsome protector ~ Even though there was a pretty big shock at the start, I enjoyed this story all the way up to right before the ending when the hero glitches - some serious groveling was needed - this was the spiciest of the romances in the collection and would have been right at home in many a mainsteam romance anthology.Flurries: A Zapstone New Voices Holiday Collection OverviewZapstone Productions LLC introduces five new, unique voices in fiction. Home For The Holidays (Zebra Contemporary Romance) ReviewI enjoyed this book but not as much as I had hoped. It is the story of Rachel Porter and Reno Wright. But also the story of Reno's sister Angela and his best friend Nate. To be honest, I liked the Nate/Angela storyline much better than the Reno/Rachel one. Mostly because I liked Nate and Angela and felt they had more chemistry than Reno and Rachel.
I liked Reno OK, but I never felt like I knew much about him. He was a football player who wanted to please everyone and owned a sporting goods store. That was it. He never seemed to grow or change and while I could see why Rachel would like him, there wasn't a reason for her to not like him either.
I was never all that fond of Rachel. While I didn't hate her, I was never really rooting for her either. I thought she was somewhat shallow and I never understood the disdain she felt for Kismet. It was never really explained except to say that she thought California was better.
Overall, I liked the book but I probably wouldn't read it again.Home For The Holidays (Zebra Contemporary Romance) Overview

Comfort & Joy: A Novel ReviewI was very disappointed in this book. How could a woman take any blame and offer almost instant forgiveness in a situation like this? Joy had found her husband in bed with her sister. The sister is now pregnant with her ex-brother-in-law's child and is inviting Joy to their wedding. Joy "runs away" for a few weeks and comes back full of forgiveness, happily awaiting the birth of her niece and helping to plan her sister's wedding. Yuck! Through all of this absurdity the sister and ex-husband show no remorse. Adultery is a deal-breaker in a marriage. The husband and sister have lost the right to have any relationship with her. I won't even get into the absentee father and son that Joy meets during her "magical" experience. Joy was portrayed as a weak, needy individual. What sort of role model is that for women?
