THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE MIGHTY ReviewSo how far-fetched is it for a president to promise his dying mom that he would make sure a law is passed so that people at the end of life can ask for legal help in dying? David Morgan sets this exciting fiction work several decades from now. But the drama created by the violence of the religious right, their paid senator, and their determination not to let the American people have a right that they want makes for a tense and very believable drama. Now that there are at least two states that permit physician aid in dying, and several European countries, and a majority of people in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the US approving the idea you can read this book as a prediction of the near future and its political battles over this issue, as we have had in the abortion battle. Morgan is a strong writer who feels strongly about his subject matter and has a background in religions and their political muscle. Strongly recommended as a good read with a message.THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE MIGHTY OverviewThe year is 2021. The "Righteous," led by popular televangelists Paul St. Clair and Abel Smedley, are trying--as they have been for nearly 50 years--to overturn the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in 1973.Thwarting their efforts is the "Mighty," Theodore ("Ted") Collins, the 45th President of the United States.Already considered an ally of the Antichrist by St. Clair and Smedley, Collins sends them into a virtual rage when he announces at a press conference that he intends to ask Congress for a "right-to-die" bill so that he can sign it and legalize euthanasia in America. There follows a dramatic confrontation that includes an attempt on Collins's life and a presidential attack on the televangelists to bring down their religious empires.
