Lonely Planet Caribbean Islands (Multi Country Travel Guide) ReviewI must confess that I find Lonely Plant Guides far superior to other travel guides that I have used. That includes National Geographic and Frommer guides. Given that predisposition I found this guide particularly helpful. I spent 4 days in Puerto Rico and then did a cruise through several Caribbean Islands. The LP Guide had a great synopsis of each island with cultural and historical backgrounds. Suggested highlighted sights of importance were on the mark and options for outdoor activities and information on them were accurate. For those that like to read historical novels or fiction set in the places they travel, LP makes great recommendations. I enjoyed the guide and lent it to friends in Puerto Rico who were staying on the island and they found it extremely useful as well.
Please keep in mind that LP guides are best for the more independent traveler. Walking tours and finding off-the-beaten path gems are the best things about the guides. Restaurants and shopping are separated by Budget, Moderate and Splurge categories so one can decide which is appropriate for your budget and taste.
